Box Score SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women's basketball team never got the offense going Wednesday night in a 50-47 defeat at Spring Arbor (Mich.) University.
No. 18-ranked Indiana Wesleyan shot 38.1-percent (16 of 42) from the floor and was just 2-of-8 (25.0-percent) from 3-point range. Spring Arbor out-rebounded the Wildcat 33-to-26.
The Spring Arbor offense was held in check as well as the Cougars made just 37.5-percent (18 of 48) of their shots. But Spring Arbor was nearly perfect from the free throw line at 92.3-percent (12 of 13).
Indiana Wesleyan held a slim 24-20 lead at halftime, but Spring Arbor shot 43.5-percent (10 of 23) in the second half to outscore IWU 30-23 to earn the three point victory.
Wildcat sophomore forward Elaine Hessel led the team in scoring with 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Sophomore guard Kayla Thompson, the reigning Mid-Central College Conference Player of the Week, chipped in with 12 points and seven boards.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to play at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 10 as the Wildcats host University of Saint Francis (Ind.) in Luckey Arena.
