Box Score 2 FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The opening day of the Indiana Tech Fall Classic produced two wins for the Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
After trailing 0-2 in the Friday afternoon opener, Indiana Wesleyan won three straight sets to comeback and defeat Saint Xavier (Ill.) University 3-2.
IWU lost 23-25 and 22-25 to open the match, but the Wildcats were resilient and won the final three sets 25-19, 25-13 and 15-6.
Indiana Wesleyan was led on the day by senior outside hitter Rebekah Reichard as she tallied 16 kills. Senior setter Krystin Coleman added 22 assists and sophomore libero Kelley Morris collected 20 digs. Junior opposite hitter Kelli Ziegler turned in six aces while freshman middle hitter Lauryn Barfell had five blocks.
In the nightcap, the Wildcats battered Saint Ambrose (Iowa) University 3-0 by scores of 25-11, 25-13 and 25-23.
Reichard once again led the team with nine kills while Morris had a team-high 13 digs. Senior setter Christ Beam passed out 15 assists and Barfell blocked two kill attempts. Coleman and sophomore defensive specialist Taryn Cocallas each had two service aces.
IWU improves their record to 12-8 on the season and will finish the Fall Classic with an 11 a.m. match against University of Northwestern Ohio and a 1 p.m. showdown with host Indiana Tech.
