Box Score MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer team had not played in 11 days due to weather related issues, but shook off the rust to defeat visiting Saint Xavier (Ill.) University 5-0 on Saturday evening in Marion.
Indiana Wesleyan used a balanced attack to collect the win as the five goals were scored by five different Wildcats.
Senior Becca Mathews, sophomore Brittany Horswell, sophomore Megan Marshall, freshman Suzy Miesse and sophomore Brittany Smith all scored for IWU as the Wildcats improve to 4-1-0 on the season. The Cougars are now 2-5-1.
Indiana Wesleyan sophomore Michaela Pride earned her first start of the season in goal and recorded the first shutout of the season for the Wildcats. She stopped two Saint Xavier shot attempts, all in the second half.
In the opening half, Indiana Wesleyan used a five minute spurt to score three goals and break the match wide open.
IWU controlled the tempo of the match and out-shot Saint Xavier by a wide 15-5 margin, including 8-2 in shots on goal.
Indiana Wesleyan opens Mid-Central College Conference play at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, as the Wildcats travel to play Grace (Ind.) College in Winona Lake, Indiana.
