Box Score AZUSA, Calif. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University volleyball team lost both of their matches on Friday against a pair of teams ranked in the NAIA top-5.
The Wildcats fell 3-0 in their first match of the season to No. 2-ranked California Baptist University. The Lancers earned the victory by scores of 25-8, 25-20, 26-24.
Senior Rebekah Reichard had 10 kills, four digs and two blocks in the contest while junior Kelli Ziegler added a team-high 15 assists in addition to five kills. Freshman Kelsey Masuda had a team-best nine digs in her first collegiate match.
Indiana Wesleyan nearly pulled off the upset in the nightcap against the host school, No. 5 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University. The Cougars out-lasted the Wildcats 17-25, 25-10, 25-20, 24-26, 15-10.
Ziegler nearly had a triple-double with 12 kills, 25 assists and eight digs. Reichard contributed 17 kills, seven digs and five blocks and Masuda added 24 digs. Freshman Lauryn Barfell blocked seven kill attempts and sophomore Allison Holloway tallied 10 kills.
Indiana Wesleyan completes the Cougar Classic with matches on Saturday against No. 4 Biloa (Calif.) University and The Master's (Calif.) College.
