Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Sophomore Christy Gibson ended the afternoon with a walk-off home run to complete an improbable seventh inning comeback to hand the Indiana Wesleyan University a doubleheader sweep of visiting Siena Heights (Mich.) University on Monday.
IWU (10-10) entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 4-2 after giving up a pair of runs in the top of the inning. With one on and no outs, senior right fielder Christi Church knotted the score at 4-4 with a home run to left center field.
One out later, Gibson smoked the winning home run to right center field to give the Wildcats a 5-4 victory.
Church finished the game 4-for-4 with a double and a home run. She scored one run and drove home three others. Sophomore designated player Melissa Kimmel was 3-for-3 in the contest.
Senior Jenifer Stansel picked up the win in relief as IWU out-hit Siena Heights 13-4.
In the first game, Indiana Wesleyan scored at least one run in all five innings. Siena Heights (7-20) scored one run in the opening two innings, but Indiana Wesleyan trumped that with three runs in each of the first two innings to jump out to a 6-2 advantage.
Sophomore first baseman Molly Yothment led the Indiana Wesleyan charge with a 2-for-3 performance. She rapped a double, scored a run and knocked in three. Junior shortstop Morgan Wheeler was also 2-for-3 as she scored two runs and recorded one RBI. Church ended the game with one with a home run, two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.
Freshman pitcher Katie Hall was rewarded with the victory as she pitched a complete game. Hall scattered seven hits to earn her fourth win of the season.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8 as the Wildcats travel to play Huntington (Ind.) University.
