Box Score 3 MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University softball season came to a close on Wednesday as the Wildcats were eliminated in the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament being held in Marion.
No. 4-seed Indiana Wesleyan opened the tournament with a 3-2 defeat to Huntington (Ind.) University in eight innings. Senior right fielder Christi Church ripped a two out double in the seventh inning to knock in junior shortstop Morgan Wheeler to tie the score at 2-2. But an infield single in the eighth inning allowed the Foresters to plate the winning run.
IWU then survived a scare from No. 8-seed Grace (Ind.) College. The two combatants were tied 5-5 heading into the seventh inning. Indiana Wesleyan responded with a five run inning to outlast the Lancers and advance in the tournament. Church doubled home senior second baseman Jeni Stansel for the game-winning run.
Indiana Wesleyan turned right around and had to play No. 2-seed Marian (Ind.) College in an elimination game for both teams. The Knights never trailed throughout the contest and advanced with a 3-2 victory to be one of the final four teams left in the tournament.
Indiana Wesleyan ends their season with a 20-19 record.
