Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University completed a doubleheader sweep of visiting University of Saint Francis (Ind.) on Wednesday afternoon as the Wildcats won 10-5 and 9-1.
Indiana Wesleyan's regular season comes to an end with the Wildcats maintaining a 17-15 record overall and 10-6 in the Mid-Central College Conference. Saint Francis falls to 11-18 and 3-7 in conference play.
In the opener, IWU jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead after two innings of play. USF scratched back and cut the deficit to two runs at 7-5 after the top of the fifth. But Indiana Wesleyan responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one more in the sixth to complete the 10-5 victory. Each team finished with 12 hits in the game.
Senior right fielder Christi Church was 1-for-2 at the plate with three runs batted in. Sophomore first baseman Molly Yothment chipped in with a 2-for-4 game at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. Senior second baseman Jenifer Stansel and sophomore catcher Christy Gibson each finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.
The nightcap featured a five inning run rule as Indiana Wesleyan cruised to the 9-1 win. Indiana Wesleyan raced out to a quick 6-0 lead after one inning and finished the game in the fifth with three runs.
Freshman Nicole Clark earned the victory as she allowed one run on five hits as she pitched all five innings. She did not allow a walk and struck out three.
Sophomore third baseman Katie Berkemeier was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs to pace the Wildcats. Senior left fielder Stephanie Linette and junior shortstop Morgan Wheeler each garnered two hits in the winning effort.
Indiana Wesleyan will next play in the NCCAA Midwest Regional over the weekend. The tournament will be held from April 18-19 at Spring Arbor, Michigan.
