Box Score 2 MARION, Ind. -- Taylor (Ind.) University did not allow a run in a doubleheader sweep of the Indiana Wesleyan University softball team on Monday afternoon in Marion, Indiana.
Taylor earned a decisive 10-0 victory in the opening game and finished the afternoon with an exciting 1-0 win to complete the sweep.
In the first game, after a scoreless first three innings, Taylor (13-9, 6-4 MCC) scored twice in the fourth and five times in the fifth. The Trojans added three more in the seventh as they out-hit the Wildcats 13-4.
IWU junior shortstop Morgan Wheeler, senior right fielder Christi Church, sophomore first baseman Molly Yothment and sophomore catcher Christy Gibson were all 1-for-3 at the plate.
Taylor escaped game two with a victory after plating the winning run in the seventh inning. Indiana Wesleyan (13-15, 6-6 MCC) rallied in the bottom half of the inning and loaded the bases with two outs. But Taylor forced a ground out to end the game and preserve the victory.
Indiana Wesleyan out-hit Taylor 5-4 in the game, led by senior left fielder Stephanie Linette's 2-for-2 performance at the plate. She also drew a walk to reach base in all three plate appearances. Wheeler, Gibson and sophomore center fielder Robyn Coffer also contributed a hit in the contest.
Freshman Kate Hall pitched brilliantly for the Wildcats in defeat. Hall scattered four hits in seven innings and struck out three Trojans.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to play at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16 as the Wildcats host University of Saint Francis (Ind.).
