Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- A 24-7 run to finish the game secured a 67-49 victory for the Indiana Wesleyan University men?s basketball team over host Marian (Ind.) College on Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Wildcats led 43-42 with eight minutes 53 seconds remaining before IWU ran away with the 18 point victory.
IWU turned a 12-10 advantage midway through the first half into a 31-12 lead with a 19-2 spurt. Marian scored the final six points in the half as the Wildcats headed into the locker room with a 31-18 lead.
The Knights opened the second half with nine unanswered points to suddenly cut the Marian deficit to four points at 31-27. The Knights were able to narrow the Wildcat lead to two points at 42-40, making it a one possession game.
Midway through the second half, Marian cut the Indiana Wesleyan advantage to one point at 43-42, leading to the 24-7 run by the Wildcats as they escaped Indianapolis with the victory.
Indiana Wesleyan improves to 18-7 overall and 7-5 in Mid-Central College Conference action. Marian falls to 6-18 and 0-13 in the conference.
IWU junior Jon Moon led all scorers with 16 points and junior guard Antonio Murrell added 15 points on 10-of-12 from the charity stripe. Sophomore center Zach Coverstone contributed 11 points while pulling down a game-high eight rebounds.
Heath Chamberlain led Marian with 10 points.
Indiana Wesleyan shot a blistering 50.0-percent (23 of 46) from the floor while holding Marian to a cold 31.0-percent (13 of 42).
The Wildcats return to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, as Indiana Wesleyan hosts Bethel (Ind.) College in Luckey Arena. Fans are encouraged to wear white clothes to the game at the Wildcats ?White Out? MCC rival Bethel.
