Ft. Wayne, IN (February 20, 2008) ? The NAIA No. 13 Indiana Wesleyan University women?s basketball team upset NAI No. 6 and Mid-Central College Conference foe University of St. Francis 65-56 Wednesday night.
The Wildcats (24-5, 10-5) jumped to a ten point half time lead behind the play of senior guard Brooke Amstutz, who led all scorers in the first half with ten points. Amstutz?s three-pointer with eight minutes to play in the second half gave IWU its biggest lead of the game at 47-34.
IWU and St. Francis traded baskets down the stretch as the Cougars were never able to climb any closer than eight points.
Freshman point guard Kayla Thompson had 14 of her game-high 18 points in the second half as she helped the Wildcats to victory. Amstutz finished the game with 15 points. IWU?s only other player in the double-figures was senior center Lisa Thompson with 16 points.
IWU will travel to MCC rival Taylor University for their final game of the regular season Saturday, February 23, tipping off at 1 p.m.
