Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Seniors Brooke Amstutz and Lisa Thompson each scored in double figures on Senior Day as the Indiana Wesleyan University women?s basketball team led wire-to-wire in a 73-55 victory over Huntington (Ind.) University on Saturday afternoon in Luckey Arena.
Both seniors were honored in a post-game ceremony after Amstutz finished the contest with a team-high 18 points and four steals while Thompson added 10 points and five rebounds.
Indiana Wesleyan (23-5, 9-5) jumped out of the gate by recording the first 10 points in the game. The Foresters were able to cut the margin down to 16-10 with 10 minutes 44 seconds on the clock in the opening period. But an IWU 7-0 run allowed the Wildcats to regain a double digit lead at 23-10.
Huntington (14-12, 6-8) never sliced the deficit to single digits the rest of the contest. Indiana Wesleyan led 35-23 at intermission.
Indiana Wesleyan built their largest lead of the game at 22 points with 12:25 to play. The Wildcats led 56-34 and settled for the 73-55 win.
Freshman Kayla Thompson was the only other Wildcat in double figures as she contributed 14 points, five rebounds and eight assists.
Jenna Donaldson led Huntington with 19 points.
The Wildcats shot 51.9-percent (27 of 52) for the contest while limiting the Foresters to a mere 34.0-percent (18 of 53).
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the hardwood at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, as the Wildcats travel to play No. 5-ranked University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
