Box Score MARION, Ind. (Box Score) -- Indiana Wesleyan University used a 15-2 run early in the first half to pick up a 71-44 home win against Malone (Ohio) University in men's basketball action on Tuesday night in Luckey Arena.
The Wildcats led 10-6 with 12:41 in the first half when Indiana Wesleyan broke the game wide open. The spurt last for four and a half minutes as IWU grabbed a 25-8 advantage with just over eight minutes before half.
No. 10-ranked Indiana Wesleyan opened up leads of 21 points on two different occasions in the opening period, including the halftime score of 42-21.
Malone (2-9) began the second half with eight of the first 10 points to trim the Wildcat lead to 45-29. But Indiana Wesleyan responded in a big way and scored the game's next 11 points to gain their largest lead of the contest 56-29 midway through the half.
The largest lead of the game came with 4:55 left to play as senior forward Landon Adler drained a 3-point bucket to push the advantage to 68-37.
The Wildcat defense played spectacular tonight as Malone was forced into 30.9-percent (17 of 55) shooting from the field and committed 23 turnovers. The Pioneers were also 3-of-16 (18.8-percent) from beyond the arc.
Indiana Wesleyan (10-3) spread the wealth as nine different players scored and nine players dished out at least one assist.
Adler led the team in scoring as he recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards. Senior guard Antonio Murrell added 12 points and junior forward Zach Coverstone chipped in with 11. Junior guard Spencer Harris contributed seven points, five rebounds and five steals.
Malone forward Taurean Dailey led the Pioneers with 10 points and six rebounds.
Tonight's game was the first home contest for Indiana Wesleyan in over a month. IWU played nine consecutive games on the road or at neutral court sites. Indiana Wesleyan returns to the road for three straight road games, beginning with a two game stint in California as the Wildcats battle Biola (Calif.) University on Thursday and Vanguard (Calif.) University on Saturday.
