Box Score MARION, Ind. (Box Score)-- The Indiana Wesleyan University men's basketball team raced out to a 13-2 lead to open the contest on Saturday afternoon in a convincing 97-72 victory over Indiana University-South Bend in Luckey Arena.
Wildcat senior guard Jon Moon scorched the Titan defense for 11 points in the first four and a half minutes of play to lead Indiana Wesleyan to their second win in the Caleb Dimmich Memorial Games. Moon ended the night with a team-high 19 points, all in the opening frame.
IU-South Bend cut into the IWU lead 24-15 with 12:09 remaining in the first half. But senior forward Landon Adler hit the first of his three 3-pointers with 11:52 to play in the period to give Indiana Wesleyan the 12 point advantage (27-15). The Wildcat lead would be double digits the rest of the afternoon.
IWU junior forward Zach Coverstone made a shot in the post and was fouled with 47 seconds on the clock before the half. Coverstone made the free throw to increase the Wildcat lead to 24 points (55-31), the largest advantage in the half. Coverstone scored 13 points with eight rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots.
Indiana Wesleyan headed into the break with a 55-34 lead.
IU-South Bend trimmed the Indiana Wesleyan lead to 15 points on two different occasions during the first eight minutes of the second half. But the Titans never got closer the rest of the way.
Wildcat junior guard Ryan Hetrick connected on three 3-pointers in a span of two minutes. The third came with 9:47 on the clock and pushed the IWU lead back to 24 points at 79-55. Hetrick finished the day with nine points.
Indiana Wesleyan ended the contest with the last eight points to gain their largest lead of the afternoon at 25 points (97-72).
Adler and senior guard Antonio Murrell each tallied double-doubles. Adler knocked in 16 points with 12 rebounds while Murrell added 16 points and 11 boards. Murrell also contributed five steals and four assists.
The Indiana Wesleyan defense was a factor once again. IWU had 15 steals and forced 22 Titan turnovers while out-rebounding IU-South Bend 51-to-36.
Indiana Wesleyan shot 56.0-percent (14 of 25) from deep and 85.0-percent (17 of 20) from the charity stripe.
