Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University sophomore Brittany Smith recorded a pair of goals to guide the Wildcats to a 3-0 victory over visiting Bethel (Ind.) College on Wednesday night at Wildcat Field.
After a scoreless first half, Smith found the back of the net twice in the second half of play as the Wildcats remained undefeated in the Mid-Central College Conference with a 3-0-0 record. No. 17-ranked Indiana Wesleyan captured their sixth consecutive victory to push their season tally to 8-1-0. Bethel falls to 6-3-1 and 1-1-1 in conference play.
The Wildcats dominated play throughout, out-shooting the Pilots by a 32-1 margin. The stout defensive effort also did not allow the visitors a shot on goal while Indiana Wesleyan put 18 on goal.
Smith quickly put the Wildcats on the scoreboard in the second half with her first goal just over a minute in as she headed home a corner kick from senior Amy Hockersmith.
In the 81st minute, Smith connected on her second goal to give IWU a 2-0 advantage. She found a wide open net after freshman Kristin Perrine and freshman Suzy Miesse beat the Bethel defense for the assists.
Miesse capped the scoring in the final minute off an assist from sophomore Brittany Horswell.
Senior Melissa Gingerich and sophomore Michaela Pride combined for the shutout in goal for Indiana Wesleyan.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to the pitch this weekend as the Wildcats battle Spring Arbor (Mich.) University on Saturday in Spring Arbor, Michigan.
