Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University and Taylor University volleyball teams battled on Tuesday night in front of a large Luckey Arena crowd on ?Pink Out' night.
A crowd of over 1,000 fans, most dressed in pink, witnessed a 3-1 victory for the Trojans. The teams competed in part of a conference wide ?Pink Out' that takes place during conference matches in October. All proceeds go to help people with cancer.
Taylor earned the win by scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-19 and 25-20.
Taylor earned a hard-fought game one by a 25-22 tally. The teams battled throughout the set but the Trojans pulled away late to earn the early 1-0 advantage. Game two was a back and forth set early until the Wildcats grabbed a 21-16 lead. Indiana Wesleyan led 24-19 until Taylor charged back to within one at 24-23, but the Wildcats completed the game two win 25-23 to draw even 1-1.
Game three was controlled by Taylor. The Trojans quickly upped their lead to five points at 12-7. Indiana Wesleyan sliced into the deficit to cut the Taylor lead to 15-13. But Taylor recorded the next four points and never looked back as the Trojan lead never dipped under four points. Taylor won game three 25-19 for the 2-1 match lead.
Indiana Wesleyan and Taylor were even 11-11 midway through set four. Taylor exploded for seven unanswered points to take a commanding 18-11 lead. The Wildcats attempted to claw back in the game and eventually cut the Trojan lead to 23-20, but Taylor finished the match with two straight points to win the fourth set 25-20.
IWU senior Rebekah Reichard totaled 12 kills and four digs for the Wildcats. Freshman Lauryn Barfell earned six block assists and senior Krystin Coleman dished out 18 assists.
The No. 22-ranked Wildcats fall to 14-10 on the season and 3-1 in the Mid-Central College Conference. Taylor improves to 18-6 and 5-0 in the conference.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 10, as the Wildcats travel to play DePauw (Ind.) University.
