Box Score Spring Arbor, Mich. -- Spring Arbor (Mich.) University beat the Indiana Wesleyan University women's soccer team 3-0 in a battle of conference unbeaten teams on Saturday afternoon in Spring Arbor, Michigan.
The Cougars improve to 8-4-0 this season and 3-0-0 in the Mid-Central College Conference while the No. 17-ranked Wildcats fall to 8-2-0 and 3-1-0 in conference action. The loss snaps the Indiana Wesleyan six match win streak.
Indiana Wesleyan fell behind early and allowed two first half goals. Spring Arbor added an insurance goal midway through the second half to seal the win.
In an equally played match, both teams amassed 19 shots, Spring Arbor was able to capitalize on IWU mistakes to earn the victory. Indiana Wesleyan earned a 9-8 advantage in the shot on goal category.
"We had enough opportunities to beat them even with all the mistakes that we made," said IWU head coach Dr. John Bratcher. "We are getting a lot of shots but we just are not placing them in a good position."
Wildcat senior goalkeeper Melissa Gingerich collected five saves on the afternoon.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to play at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, as the Wildcats hit the road and play Marian College in Indianapolis, Indiana.
