Box Score MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men?s basketball team earned a convincing 74-50 win over East-West (Ill.) University in the Caleb Dimmich Memorial Tournament championship game on Saturday afternoon in Luckey Arena.
The Wildcats never trailed throughout the contest en route to the victory. The win pushes IWU to a 3-1 mark on the season as East-West falls to 1-1.
Junior Antonio Murrell collected a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore Zach Coverstone did not earn a double-double for the first time this season as he finished the game with eight points and a game-high 17 rebounds.
Freshman Will Hubertz tallied a game-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting while sophomore Spencer Harris notched 16 points and five assists in the winning effort.
Neither team could muster a point to begin the game until Hubertz hit a field goal over three minutes into the contest. East-West tied the score on their next possession, but the Wildcats recorded the next nine points to garner an 11-2 lead as IWU was never threatened again.
Indiana Wesleyan gained their largest advantage of the first half with just over a minute to play as the Wildcats led 38-22. The Phantoms scored five of the last six points in the half to give IWU a 39-27 lead at intermission.
The Wildcats never lost their double digit lead in the second half. Indiana Wesleyan amassed their largest lead of the game at 27 points when the Wildcats led 74-47.
Indiana Wesleyan?s defense shut down the visiting Phantoms as they forced the visitors into 29.0-percent (20 of 69) shooting from the field. The Wildcats also used a large advantage on the boards, as IWU out-rebounded East-West by a 52-37 margin.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, as the Wildcats host Ohio Dominican University in Luckey Arena.
