Eddy Shigley

Dr. Eddy Shigley – Men’s Tennis (5th Season) and Women’s Tennis (8th Season) 

COACHING MISSION: 

  • To mentor young men and women to grow in their relationship with Christ, to win Championships and to give God the glory! 

EDUCATION: 

  • Shigley graduated summa cum laude from Indiana Wesleyan University with a B.S. in Education. He completed a M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in History from the University of Texas at Tyler.? He also earned a Doctorate of Strategic Leadership from Regent University with an emphasis in organizational leadership, consulting, and executive coaching. 

COACHING EXPERIENCE: 

  • Eddy was the assistant tennis coach to Bill Beekman at Marion High School for three years. The Marion High School Boys’ Team placed 2nd?in the state in 1989 and won the state title the following year in 1990. Eddy has coached numerous competitive baseball and basketball teams through the years.? 

IWU COACHING HIGHLIGHTS: 

Men’s 

  • Dr. Eddy Shigley is in his fifth?year as head coach of the Indiana Wesleyan University men’s tennis team in 2021-2022.  

  • Shigley led the Wildcats?to?Crossroads League regular season and/or tournament championships all four years as head coach. The men’s tennis team compiled a 31-4 record last year and finished the season ranked #10 in the nation. The men’s tennis team had 13 top 25 wins last year. Shigley has been named Coach of the Year for the Crossroads League four times. 

  • In the four years as head coach, Shigley has had the opportunity to coach 6 NAIA All-American and 6 ITA All-Americans  

Women’s 

  • Shigley is in his eighth year as head coach of the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s tennis team in 2021-22. The previous six years, the Lady Wildcats have been consistently ranked in the top 10 teams in the nation. It is widely recognized as one of the best women’s program in the country for NAIA schools.  

  • In seven years as head coach, Shigley has had the opportunity to coach 15 NAIA All-Americans and 12 ITA All-Americans.  

  • Shigley led the Wildcats to a NAIA record 22nd consecutive qualification to the NAIA National Championship in the spring of 2021 by winning the Crossroads League championship for the 29th year in a row. The Lady Wildcats had a 33-5 record last year and finished ranked #4 in the nation. The Lady Wildcats advanced to the Final 4 for the first time in its program history. The women’s team had 12 top 25 wins last year alone.  In the last six?years, IWU women’s tennis has won more matches than any other tennis program across all divisions with 196?wins, an average of almost 33 wins per season. During this time period, Indiana Wesleyan defeated 12?NAIA Top-10 teams, 70 Top-25 teams, and in 2021?was ranked a program best No. 4 in the nation. Shigley has been named Crossroads Coach of the Year five?times, NCCAA Coach of the Year in 2016, and the ITA Coach of the Year in 2021. ???

PERSONAL INFORMATION: 

  • Eddy is happily married to Esther.? They have been married 31?years and God has blessed them with seven children; three of them have graduated from IWU and the other four are current students at Indiana Wesleyan.
