Assistant Track and Field Coach for Women’s sprints, High Jump and Multi-events

Derek Gay graduated from Indiana Wesleyan and the track and field program in the spring of 2011. Derek competed in the high jump and the intermediate hurdles for IWU and was an outstanding team leader on teams that dominated the league championship during his tenure.

Gay is a full time coach that coordinates the fall track program and then focuses on his event areas beginning in January. His youth and energy allow for a strong connection between the athletes and Derek.

There are few tasks at IWU track that Gay isn’t involved in at a significant level. He approaches coaching with a consistent and long term approach that has already yielded excellent results. Derek also works alongside Latrese Moffitt in the high jump when she is available. Latrese, wife of IWU Vice President of Student Development, Michael Moffit, was a 1984 Olympian in the women’s high jump and currently is enjoying the opportunity to help coach two of her children, Michael Jr. at IWU and Janelle, at Oak Hill High School.

Derek lives in Marion and is committed to the sport of track and field. He is also one of the strength training coaches for the track team.
