FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Indiana Wesleyan University Academy Men's Soccer completed a second-half comeback Monday evening, defeating Saint Francis 2-1 at Bishop D'Arcy Stadium in the Wildcats' first away match of the season. After falling behind in the first half, IWU responded with two second-half goals from Elliot Williams and Eli Falkenberg to secure the victory and maintain its perfect start to the season. The Wildcats began the match with attacking intent, creating several promising opportunities early. However, Saint Francis gradually grew into the contest and took advantage of an IWU defensive breakdown to take the lead in front of a strong home crowd.

FIRST HALF
The Wildcats started the match on the front foot and came close to opening the scoring when Eli Falkenberg broke through one-on-one with the Saint Francis goalkeeper. His effort, however, narrowly missed the target. Saint Francis continued to grow into the match and eventually found the breakthrough. A lapse in communication at the back allowed a Saint Francis wide player to race into the penalty area. With the IWU defense unable to recover, he squared the ball across goal for the onrushing forward, who made no mistake from close range to put the hosts ahead 1-0. The Wildcats entered halftime trailing for the first time this season and knowing a significant improvement would be required after the break.

SECOND HALF
Indiana Wesleyan came out with renewed intensity after halftime, applying consistent pressure and taking control of the tempo. The Wildcats' persistence was rewarded in the 67th minute when Elliot Williams scored directly from a corner kick, producing an outstanding Olympico to level the match at 1-1 and open his account for the season. With the game tied, the coaching staff made several adjustments, and IWU continued to dominate possession while moving the ball with greater purpose. Despite controlling large portions of the second half, the Wildcats initially struggled to find the decisive goal. That changed in the 75th minute. Mitchell Cunningham received the ball on the left side before finding Clark Marti, who received the ball on the half-turn. Marti then slipped a perfectly weighted pass through to Eli Falkenberg, who remained composed under pressure and calmly placed his finish beyond the onrushing goalkeeper to complete the comeback. The Wildcats held a 2-1 advantage heading into the final stages. Saint Francis increased the pressure late in the match, searching for an equalizer, but the IWU defense remained organized and disciplined. The Wildcats limited the hosts' opportunities and prevented Saint Francis from finding a clear route back into the game. After conceding in the first half, IWU's defensive resilience in the closing stages ensured the Wildcats would leave Fort Wayne with all three points.

After the final whistle, Coach Justin spoke about the team's response, the adjustments made at halftime and the character shown to come from behind and secure all three points. "The response from the boys was brilliant, I am very proud of the character we showed especially after our first half performance. We have to keep building, we have 10 days before we welcome a very strong UNOH side to our home, we have a lot to work on." The victory moves IWU Academy to 2-0-0 on the season and gives the Wildcats another important result away from home.

The Wildcats will return to the road for their next fixture, traveling to UNOH on September 24. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. IWU will look to carry the momentum from its two consecutive victories into the matchup as the Wildcats continue their strong start to the season.
