MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan University Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Travis Combs as the first head coach in the history of the university's Women's Flag Football program. The addition of Combs marks a significant milestone as the Wildcats prepare to launch one of their newest varsity sports, set to begin competition in spring of the 2026-2027 academic year.
"I am honored to be named the inaugural head coach for Women's Flag Football at Indiana Wesleyan," said Combs. "I give all glory to Jesus Christ, and recognize that without Him, none of this would be possible. I am excited to invest in our student-athletes spiritually, academically, and on the field."
Combs comes to IWU after spending six years as the Head Flag Football Coach at Lennard High School in Ruskin, Florida, where he built one of the most respected programs in the nation. Taking over a program in 2019 that had no junior varsity team and only 28 wins in its history, Combs led Lennard to an incredible 82-21 record over six seasons.
"Travis has a demonstrated track record of building successful programs, and we are honored to have him lead our new Women's Flag Football program," said Deane Webb, Director of Athletics. "His coaching resume is impressive, but his heart for discipleship and vision for integrating faith into every aspect of the program make him the perfect fit for the Wildcat family".
Under Combs' leadership, Lennard High School reached the pinnacle of Florida high school flag football. His 2024 squad finished as the State Runner-Up after a 19-4 season that included District and Regional Championships. In 2025, the program continued its dominance with a 16-3 record, securing another District Championship and a Sweet 16 appearance.
Following his stellar 2024 campaign, he was named the 2024 Class 2A Florida Coach of the Year and the 2024 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Girls Flag Football Coach of the Year. He also led both junior and senior teams to division national championships at the prestigious "She's a Baller: Battle of the States" Girls Flag Football Tournament.
