NEW ORLEANS, La. - Indiana Wesleyan junior
Princess Kara has been named the 2024 USTFCCCA NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Great Lakes Regional Female Athlete of the Year. This is the second-consecutive year she has won the award. Kara, who hails from Port Harcourt, Nigeria, is the national leader in the discus at 54.14m (177-8), which is the second-farthest throw in NAIA history. Including that mark, Kara has notched six all-time top-10 efforts this season alone. Kara is also ranked fifth nationally in the shot put at 14.71m (48-3¼).
Kara will compete for a national title, starting out at the shot put at home in the 2024 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23. She will continue the quest for a national championship in the discus throw on Friday, May 24 at 1:00 p.m.
Kara is a two-time USTFCCCA NAIA Outdoor Athlete of the Year winner and was the recipient of the Field National Women's Field Athlete of the Year in back-to-back years (2021, 2022) for the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season. Last season she was the NAIA Outdoor T&F National Champion in the discuss with a throw of 52.77m. In 2022, Kara won the national title in the discus with 56.51m (185' 5") and earned runner-up honors in the shot put. Kara holds the discus NJCAA national record with 56.51m (185' 4.8").
