ROME, Ga. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women’s track and field team was runner-up at this weekend’s NCCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship held in Rome, Georgia.
Host Shorter (Ga.) won the national championship with 108.5 points as Indiana Wesleyan was second with 85 points. McMurry (Texas) was next at 67.5 points.
Seven of the first 22 event finals were held on Friday while Saturday hosted the last 15 events.
The top finish for Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday was a third place finish by Emily Bantz (SO/West College Corner, Ind.) in the Heptathlon. She took third of eight participants with a score of 4,016 points.
Indiana Wesleyan had two Wildcats score in the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase today. Megan Sanchez (SO/Hudsonville, Mich.) finished sixth of 12 runner in a time of 11:45 while Robyn Karst (SO/Huntington, Ind.) was eight with a time of 11:51.
IWU boasted four fourth place finishes on Saturday. Sarah McBeath (SO/Lehigh Acres, Fla.) did so in the 28-runner 1,500-Meter Run with a time of 4:35. Hannah Williams (SO/Navon, Pa.) was fourth in the 400-Meter Hurdles in a time of 1:04 while Christy Schultz (SO/Muskegon, Mich.) placed fourth in the Long Jump with a mark of 18 feet 0.5 inches. The 4x400-Meter Relay team of Emily Rupp (SO/Stryker, Ohio), Bantz, Williams, and Allix Miller (SR/Muskegon, Mich.) earned fourth place with a time of 3:54.
Julie Kamp (JR/Frankfort, Ill.) took sixth position in the 800-Meter Run as she crossed the line in 2:17 and Sarah Heagy (JR/Warsaw, Ind.) earned sixth place in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 153 feet 1 inch. Miller claimed seventh place in the 400-Meter Run at 58.55 seconds.
Indiana Wesleyan next competes on May 7-8 at the Cardinal Invitational in Naperville, Illinois.
