ROME, Ga. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men’s track and field team competed in the NCCAA National Championship this weekend and earned third place in Rome, Georgia.
Host Shorter (Ga.) won the national championship with 98 points. Bethel (Ind.) was runner-up at 87 points while Indiana Wesleyan was close behind at 80 points.
Saturday featured the final 15 events of the 22 total events in the national championship and two Wildcats won individual national championships. Mason DePeal (JR/Grove City, Pa.) won the Decathlon with 6,002 points. Jake Smith (SR/Dayton, Ohio) gained the other national championship with a time of 14.53 seconds in the 110-Meter Hurdles.
Indiana Wesleyan produced two scorers in two different events today. In the 5,000-Meter Run, Neno Bellinotti (JR/Swayzee, Ind.) was runner-up in a time of 15:07 while Tyler Laubach (JR/Walnutport, Pa.) was fourth place in 15:17. In the 400-Meter Run, Malcolm Dias (SR/Goa, India) was fourth across the line in a time of 49.289 seconds and Noah Stratton (FR/Bluffton, Ohio) was seventh place in 50.06 seconds.
Dalen Beck (SO/Anderson, Ind.) finished third place in the Long Jump with a leap of 23 feet 1.25 inches and Josh Neideck (FR/Upland, Ind.) earned fourth place out of 37 runners in the 800-Meter Run in a time of 1:53. Andrew Hamilton (JR/Warren, Ohio) was eighth in the 400-Meter Hurdles with a time of 56.05 seconds.
Stratton, Hamilton, Neideck, and Dias ran the 4x400-Meter Relay and were fifth place in 3:19.
Steven Osladil (JR/Hanover, Pa.) earned a sixth place finish in the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase in a time of 9:26. Jacob Reinking (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) took sixth place as well in the 1,500-Meter Run at 4:00.
Indiana Wesleyan next competes on May 7-8 at the Cardinal Invitational in Naperville, Illinois.
