LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s cross country traveled south to Kentucky and competed in the very sizable Greater Louisville Classic.
Indiana Wesleyan placed eighth among 33 teams. The women’s blue race featured many NAIA and NCAA Division I 'A' and ‘B’ teams.
West Virginia ('A' team) won the race with 32 points while Mississippi was runner-up with 94 points and Oakland (Mich.) took third place at 97 points. Tennessee ('T' team) earned fourth place at 119 and No. 6-ranked Taylor (Ind.) was fifth place with 207 points. Lipscomb (Tenn.) took sixth place with 210, Tennessee-Martin was seventh with 222, and Indiana Wesleyan claimed eighth place with 322 points.
Two other NAIA ranked programs competed in the race. No. 13-ranked Shawnee State (Ohio) was 13th with 414 points and No. 23-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan was 24th place with 598 points.
"I am real proud of the girls. They ran a great race today," said IWU head coach John Foss. "Our gap was really good and so was our team time even with the course being slippery and muddy due to the rain."
Isabel Wharton (SR/Laurel, Del.) was the first Wildcat to cross the line in the 5,000-meter race. She was 40th overall out of 284 total runners with a time of 18 minutes 43 seconds.
Brooke Horswell (SR/Charleston, W.Va.) was next in 63rd position with a time of 19:02 and Sarah McBeath (JR/LeHigh Acres, Fla.) was 65th in 19:04. Angel Osladil (SR/Gibson City, Ill.) earned 86th place in 19:13 while Megan Sanchez (JR/Hudsonville, Mich.) rounded out the IWU scoring in 88th position in a time of 19:14. Katharine Arch ran a 19:31 for 117th place and Londyn Wise (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) crossed the line in 19:57 for 152nd place to round out the top-seven.
Indiana Wesleyan next runs on Friday, October 9 at the NAIA Pre-Nationals Invitational in Charlotte, North Carolina.
