GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women’s cross country team competed on Saturday and placed third of 26 teams at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge held in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The top three teams at the invitational were all ranked inside the NAIA top-10 in the latest poll released earlier this week. No. 2 Aquinas (Mich.) won the title as they edged No. 4 Taylor (Ind.) 55-59. No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan was third place with 88 points. Two other ranked programs were represented as No. 16 Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) took fourth place with 135 points and No. 25 Siena Heights (Mich.) was fifth place at 187 points.
The Wildcats had a close pack on Saturday as their five scorers were all within 35 seconds of each other and the top seven runner gap was 44 seconds.
Angel Osladil (SR/Gibson City, Ill.) was the first Wildcat across the line in 19 minutes 9 seconds as she was eighth place in the 296 runner field. Isabel Wharton (SR/Laurel, Del.) was 13th place in 19:23 and Caitlyn Chastain (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) earned 19th place at 19:35. Lauren Hamilton (JR/Spencerville, Ind.) was 21st in 19:37 and Brooke Horswell (SR/Charleston, W.Va.) was the final scorer for Indiana Wesleyan in 27th place as she crossed the line in 19:44. Megan Sanchez (JR/Hudsonville, Mich.) earned 32nd place and Katherine Arch (SR/Iowa City, Iowa) was 33rd as the pair of Wildcats each finished in a time of 19:53.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to action in two weeks when they take part in the Crossroads League Championship. The race will be held on November 7 at Huntington, Indiana.
