FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women’s golf team finished seventh out of 12 teams in the one day golf event cut short by inclement weather on Friday.
St. Francis (Ill.) won with a team score of 314, Indiana Tech was runner-up at 317, Lewis (Ill.) shot a 323, Davenport (Mich.) took fourth at 335, St. Joseph (Ind.) earned a 346, Aquinas (Mich.) had a 350, and Indiana Wesleyan tallied a 351. Hope (Mich.) shot a 364, Saint Francis (Ind.) scored a 365, Taylor (Ind.) ended at 372, Manchester (Ind.) totaled a 384, and Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) shot a 410 to round out the field.
Wendy Schlender took home low medalist honors with a one under par 72.
Jessica Pegg led Indiana Wesleyan with an 83 that included an even par 37 on the front nine on 15 putts and back-to-birdies.
“Jessica is really tuning into her golf game right now,” said IWU head coach Julie Wagner. “She has held the number one position this spring season and typically plays in the four and five spots for us. We are so proud of her accomplishments today with a very big tournament round for her.”
Kelli Sewell (FR/Greenville, Ohio) and Jessica Meloche (SO/Gowen, Mich.) both carded an 89, Haley Elenbaas shot a 90 and Taylor Goshert finished at 91.
“This is a good score for us, as we have struggled so far in our tournament play,” continued Wagner. “We went in with a mission to beat one of our conference rivals and we did just that. We want to be in the top three when the Crossroads League Tournament starts but we still have one more hurdle to get over to make that happen.”
The Wildcat golfers will host their home match next Friday and Saturday at the Arbor Trace Golf Club. Fridays start time is 1 p.m. and Saturday will begin at 9 a.m.
