INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s track and field destroyed the competition at the Crossroads League Championship this weekend at Marian (Ind.) in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Indiana Wesleyan nearly won the championship by 100 points as the team earned 253 points. Bethel (Ind.) was runner-up at 159 points and Taylor (Ind.) took third place at 121 points.
The Wildcats captured a total of 24 All-Crossroads League performances over the weekend for top-three finishes in events. IWU gained 16 today to go with the eight they earned on Friday. The eight All-League performers from Friday were: Women’s 4x800-Meter Relay Team (First), Taylor Hite (JR/Ligonier, Ind.) (First - 10,000-Meter Run), Katherine Arch (SO/Iowa City, Iowa) (Second - 10,000-Meter Run), Emily Stearns (SR/Holland, Mich.) (First - Discus), Emily Blake (JR/Pendleton, Ind.) (Third - Discus), Erika Isham (JR/Tekonsha, Mich.) (Second - Discus), Christy Schultz (FR/Muskegon, Mich.) (First -Long Jump), and Allison Trevithick (SO/Mitchell, Ind.) (First - High Jump).
Indiana Wesleyan boasted three league champions today to go along with five from yesterday. Winning league titles today were Holli Leslie (SO/Indianapolis, Ind.) with a 11.20-meter jump in the Triple Jump, Sarah McBeath (FR/Lehigh Acres, Fla.) in the 1,500-Meter Run with an NAIA ‘A’ standard time of 4:40 (and less than one second off the school record), and the 4x400-Meter Relay Team with a ‘B’ qualifying time of 3:55.86. Running on the relay was Talia Benware (SO/Wheaton, Ill.), Emily Bantz (FR/West College Corner, Ind.), Hannah Williams (FR/Navon, Pa.), and Allix Miller (JR/Muskegon, Mich.).
IWU swept the All-League marks in the Triple Jump that Leslie won. Schultz placed second at 11.05-meters and Lauren Stutzman (SO/Goshen, Ind.) earned third with a distance of 10.84-meters. Indiana Wesleyan also had two top-three finishes in the 1,500-Meter Run as Isabel Wharton (SO/Laurel, Del.) joined McBeath with a third place run in a time of 4:45.15.
Corine Melvin gained a pair of All-League accolades with runner-up finishes in the 100-Meter and 200-Meter Dash. Melvin ran the 100 in a time of 12.31 seconds and then 25.35 seconds in the 200.
In other individual track events, Bantz was second in the 100-Meter Hurdles in 15.75 seconds, Kayla Ewert (SR/Winona, Minn.) placed third in the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase in 11:23.82, Miller was third in the 400-Meter Run at 58.72 seconds, Julie Kamp (SO/Frankfort, Ill.) took third place in a time of 2:19.42 in the 800-Meter Run, Hannah Williams crossed the line in second place in the 400-Meter Hurdles at 1:04.71, and Alyssa Foss (SR/Marion, Ind.) placed second in the 5,000-Meter Run with a finishing time of 18:34.33.
Melvin, Miller, Katie Snyder (FR/Portland, Ind.), and Schultz reached a ‘B’ standard in the 4x100-Meter Relay. The time of 48.21 seconds was good for second place. Tina Huffman (SR/Peru, Ind.) was runner-up in the Shot Put on Saturday with a throw of 13.29-meters.
Indiana Wesleyan will next compete at the NCCAA National Championship on May 1-3. The meet will be hosted by Shorter College in Rome, Georgia.
