Box Score MARION, Ind. -- The large Homecoming crowd left happy today as Indiana Wesleyan University men’s soccer drubbed Marian (Ind.)in a 5-0 final score at Wildcat Field.
The win is the eighth straight for the No. 14-ranked Wildcats who have not lost since August 29. The win improves the IWU record to 9-1-0 this season and 3-0-0 in Crossroads League play. Marian drops to 4-5-1 and 0-3-0 in league action.
The goals came early as Indiana Wesleyan put three on the board before halftime. Keaton Albert (JR/Park City, Ill.) quickly put IWU on the board in the ninth minute when he scored off a Shawn Bloch (FR/Rockford, Mich.) crossing pass that Corey Lopez (JR/Warsaw, Ind.) headed to Albert. Less than eight minutes later Seth Kintigh (JR/Concord, Mich.) doubled up Marian with a goal off the assist from Evan Young (SO/Colorado Springs, Colo.). The final first half tally came in the 34th minute of play when Lopez scored off a pass from Albert.
Josh Goepper (JR/Shelby Township, Mich.) starred in the second half of the match. Tyrone Martin (SR/Indianapolis, Ind.) split two Marian defenders in the 59th minute and was fouled in the box. The IWU keeper was called upon to take the penalty kick and Goepper scored his first collegiate goal for the 4-0 lead.
Caleb Denlinger (SO/Miamisburg, Ohio) completed the scoring with the fifth goal of the afternoon for Indiana Wesleyan. Denlinger’s goal was also his first of his collegiate career as Tyrone Martin was credited with the assist.
Besides scoring a goal, Goepper collected five saves in just over 73 minutes of action in the IWU net. Andrew Wick (FR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished the match with one saves in 16:24 of action.
Indiana Wesleyan next hosts Taylor (Ind.) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night at Wildcat Field. The match will be the NSCAA Game of the Week and will be live streamed by Tourbeau Sports.
