Box Score MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- No. 14-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University won their seventh straight match tonight in a 2-1 victory vs. Bethel (Ind.) in Mishawaka, Indiana.
The first 78 minutes of the match was quite tame as neither team could find the back of the net. But the next six minutes saw the teams combine for three goals as the Wildcats improve to 8-1-0 this season and 2-0-0 in the Crossroads League. The Pilots drop to 5-4-1 and 0-2-0 in league play.
Taylor Lehman (JR/Indianapolis, Ind.) served a ball in front of the net in the 78th minute that led to the first score of the evening. The ball bounced off a Bethel player and went into the goal for an own goal as Indiana Wesleyan led 1-0.
But one minute 39 seconds later Bethel stunned Indiana Wesleyan with the tying-goal off the foot of Ricardo Zambonino. The score was now tied 1-1 with 10 minutes to play.
The scoring binge continued less than three minutes later as Indiana Wesleyan struck in the 83rd minute. Tyrone Martin (SR/Indianapolis, Ind.) fed Keaton Albert (JR/Park City, Ill.) at the top of the box and Albert struck the ball from the 18-yard box past the Pilot keeper for the 2-1 advantage.
Bethel tried to find the late equalizer for the second time in the match. But Indiana Wesleyan keeper Josh Goepper (JR/Shelby Township, Mich.) negated two scoring strikes to preserve the 2-1 Wildcat victory.
Tonight is the second straight match that Indiana Wesleyan scored the game-winning goal in the final eight minutes of the contest. On Saturday, Evan Young (SO/Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored twice in the final five minutes to lift IWU to a 3-1 victory vs. Grace (Ind.).
The Pilots outshot the Wildcats 19-8 on the night and put seven shots on goal compared to five for the Wildcats. Goepper collected five saves for the victory.
Indiana Wesleyan returns to Wildcat Field for their next match as they host Marian (Ind.) at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. The match is set during Homecoming at Indiana Wesleyan.
