JOLIET, Ill. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men’s outdoor track and field team continued to score points today at the NCCAA T&F National Championship hosted by Judson (Ill.) University in Joliet, Illinois.

Indiana Wesleyan held their spot from Friday and finished fourth in the impressive field at the national championship meet. There were 23 teams that scored this weekend.

Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University dominated the meet to win the team title with 207 points. McMurry (Texas) University was runner-up with 97 points, Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University took third with 76.5 points, and Indiana Wesleyan claimed fourth position with 72.5 points.

Michael Moffitt remained the only individual national champion to come from Indiana Wesleyan this weekend. He won the Men’s High Jump at 6 feet 9 inches on Friday.

Andrew Albert and Darrian Mikell had the best finishes for Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday as they were both the runner-up in their events. Albert was second in the Men’s 3,000-Meter Steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes 28 seconds. His time gave him the ‘B’ standard for qualification at the NAIA National Championship. Mikell was the national runner-up in the Men’s Long Jump. He had a long mark of 23 feet 5.5 inches (7.15 meters).

One Wildcat reached the ‘A’ standard for the NAIA championship and that was Kyle Abney in the Men’s Shot Put. His toss of 54 feet 6.75 inches (16.63 meters) allowed him to finish third overall. Abney was joined by James Allen in the event. Allen took eighth place with a distance of 48 feet 11.75 inches (14.93 meters).

Two other Wildcats scored on Saturday and earned ‘B’ standards for the NAIA meet. Allen did so in the Men’s Discus with a long throw of 156 feet 3 inches (47.45 meters) and Andrew Hamilton accomplished the feat in the Men’s 400-Meter Hurdles in a time of 53.83 seconds. Hamilton had the fourth best time in the event while Allen placed fifth.

Jake Smith finished fourth in the Men’s 110-Meter Hurdles finals. Smith just missed the ‘B’ standard for the NAIA meet with his time of 15.12 seconds.

The Men’s 4x100-Meter Relay team also earned a fourth place finish on Saturday with a time of 42.87 seconds. The team members were Jay Filson, Jordan Easley, Smith, and Malcolm Dias. The 4x400-Meter Relay team also scored for Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday. The team of Justin Shaffer, Casey Gauss, Easley, and Dias finished the 4x400 in fifth place with a time of 3:20.

Two Wildcats scored in the Men’s 800-Meter Run for Indiana Wesleyan. The duo of Conner McKnight and Hansen Martin each came out of the second prelim to finish seventh and eighth place, respectively. McKnight (1:58.66) edged Martin (1:58.82) by 0.16 seconds.

Indiana Wesleyan will run in another meet next week that is still to be determined. Then IWU will host the NAIA National Championships on May 23-25 in Marion.
