Trevithick, Smith Claim NAIA T&F All-American Status on Final Day

MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women’s outdoor track and field team concluded their season today on a high note at the 2013 NAIA Track and Field National Championship in Marion.

It was the final day of a four year stretch that the track championship was being hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University. To cap the run the Wildcats received two NAIA All-Americans in Allison Trevithick and Paige Smith.

Trevithick earned a fifth place finish in the High Jump with a height of 5 feet 4.25 inches. She tied with three other competitors who all cleared the height on their first attempt. Other jumpers who cleared the height on the third attempt did not score.

Smith was the final Wildcat to compete this weekend. The senior advanced to the finals on her final throw in the prelims. Her throw was 148 feet 11 inches and that would be her best throw of the afternoon which was good for seventh place. Smith finishes 2013 as a NAIA All-American in Basketball and Outdoor Track and Field.

Emily Dean and Natasha Greenwood opened Saturday very early in the morning in the Marathon. The event was run through the streets of Marion with a 6 a.m. start time. Dean finished the 26.2 mile race in a time of 3 hours 14 minutes 7 seconds. Greenwood crossed the line in 39th place at 3:35.52.

Indiana Wesleyan completes the national championship with three NAIA All-Americans and six points. The team finished 37th out of 60 teams to score in the final standings.
