HUNTINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University women’s track and field laid claim to third place at the Crossroads League Championship this weekend in Huntington, Indiana.
Taylor (Ind.) University won the league title with 202 points to edge Bethel (Ind.) College with 197.5 points. Indiana Wesleyan was third place with 144 points and no other team cracked 100 points.
Three Wildcats won league championships in their events and there were a total of 10 All-Crossroads League performances by the Wildcats. IWU had 11 student-athletes earn the league recognition in six different events.
Indiana Wesleyan captured 24 points in the Discus as the team took the top three spots. Paige Smith won the league title with a throw of 145 feet 1 inch which was an ‘A’ standard for the NAIA National Championship. Tina Huffman was runner-up with a distance of 128-3 feet and Emily Stearns was third at 126-4 feet.
Huffman and Smith also earned All-League status in the Shot Put. Huffman won the championship in the event with a ‘B’ standard throw of 44-0.75 feet while Smith was third at 40-0 feet.
Allison Trevithick was the third Wildcat to win a championship as she did so in the High Jump. Her jump of 5-6 easily defeated the field as she surpassed the ‘A’ standard for the national meet. Stephanie Wilson joined her as an All-League performer in the High Jump as she was third at 5-1.
Indiana Wesleyan featured two runner-ups over the weekend. Kayla Ewert was second in the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase in a time of 11 minutes 47 seconds. The 4x400-Meter Relay team of Talia Benware, Tracey Tiernon, Angel Gaesser, and Kyla Morgan were second as they crossed the finish line in 4:02.
The final All-League performance came from Emily Dean in the 10,000-Meter Run. Dean ran the race in a time of 40:09.
