CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- The Indiana Wesleyan University women’s cross country team took fifth place out of 31 teams at the NCCAA National Championship today in Cedarville, Ohio.
Today was the final team competition for the Wildcats. Isabel Wharton and Kayla Ewert will run as individuals next weekend at the NAIA National Championship in Lawrence, Kansas. The pair of Wharton and Ewert did not compete today for the Wildcats.
Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) won the national championship with 49 points while Azusa Pacific (Calif.) was runner-up with 79. Dallas Baptist (Texas) claimed third place at 101, Union (Tenn.) earned fourth at 148, and Indiana Wesleyan finished fifth with 157 points.
The five scoring Wildcats were all within 18 seconds of each other today on the 5,000-meter course. Brooke Horswell was the first of those five at 19:13 as she placed 27th of 227 runners. Julie Kamp was 30th at 19:16 and Alyssa Foss was 31st at 19:17. Christina Sandberg was fourth for the Wildcats and placed 37th in 19:23 while Laura Nordquist was the final scorer in 42nd place at 19:31.
Katherine Arch was 56th at 19:50 and Amanda Wolfe rounded out the Indiana Wesleyan team in 74th place in a time of 20:06.
Indiana Wesleyan will finish the 2013 season next Saturday as Wharton and Ewert race at the NAIA National Championship.
