Box Score MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer finally defeated Spring Arbor (Mich.) University on Monday by a 1-0 margin in the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament.
The Wildcats hosted the play-in game in the regional tournament as the fourth seed. The Cougars entered as the region's fifth seed.
Spring Arbor has been Indiana Wesleyan's opponent the last three matches. Spring Arbor beat Indiana Wesleyan 2-1 in the regular season finale on October 21 and again on October 29 with a 4-3 overtime victory in the MCC Tournament First Round.
With the victory, Indiana Wesleyan advances to the NCCAA Midwest Regional Semifinals. IWU will travel to play top-seeded Cedarville (Ohio) University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
The lone tally of the match came in the eighth minute. Seth Douwsma fed Zach Grantham for the eventual game-winner. It was only one of two shots that Indiana Wesleyan put on goal.
Spring Arbor created a lot of chances to tie the match with 16 shots, six on goal. But Zach Hammon stopped each scoring opportunity with six saves to preserve the shutout for Indiana Wesleyan.
Indiana Wesleyan ups their record to 11-9-0 on the year while Spring Arbor ends their season at 11-8-3.
