Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer played spoiler on Saturday as the Wildcats defeated Goshen (Ind.) College 3-2 during their Homecoming festivities.
Senior forward Erik Johnson, sophomore midfielder Geoff Bowman and junior forward Seth Douwsma all scored for Indiana Wesleyan who won their second straight Mid-Central College Conference match, both coming on the road.
It was a rocky start for the Wildcats as the Maple Leafs quickly grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of play. The Maple Leaf goal would hold until the 29th minute when Douwsma would figure in the first of two quick goals.
Douwsma assisted Johnson on the game-tying score in the 29th minute. Just three minutes later the junior would strike for his own goal as he kicked in a rebound shot in the game's 32nd minute as Indiana Wesleyan captured a 2-1 lead.
The lead would be short lived as Goshen created the second tie in the match 2-2 on a shot from distance in the 37th minute.
Indiana Wesleyan would score the only goal during the second half of play in the 52nd minute. Bowman took a free kick for the Wildcats from 25-yards out that he blasted past the Goshen keeper for the game-winning tally.
The Wildcats are over .500 in the MCC for the first time this season with a 3-2-0 record and improve to 9-5-0 overall. Goshen falls to 2-3-0 in conference play and 7-6-0 on the season.
Indiana Wesleyan will return to Wildcat Field on Wednesday for its first home match in 11 days. IWU will host Marian (Ind.) University at 7 p.m. on October 12.
