Box Score

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Seniors Ross Tanzer and Erik Johnson each scored over the final 33 minutes of play as Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer ended a two match skid with a 2-1 win at Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University.

Tuesday's match between the two schools was the first ever Mid-Central College Conference competition between the two programs. Mount Vernon Nazarene joined the MCC for the 2011-12 season.

Mount Vernon Nazarene's Josh Thomas beat IWU keeper Dylan McCauley after receiving a lead pass from Jacob Doup. The goal broke a scoreless tie in the 57th minute.

Johnson quickly answered for Indiana Wesleyan just 45 seconds later. Geoff Bowman headed a ball past the defense when Johnson gained possession for a breakaway goal in the 58th minute for a 1-1 tie.

The score remained tied with four minutes remaining when Indiana Wesleyan would strike again. Johnson struck a crossing pass which Tanzer headed past the MVNU keeper for the decisive goal as Indiana Wesleyan would leave Mount Vernon with a 2-1 victory.

Mount Vernon Nazarene (4-7-1, 0-4-0 MCC) held a slight 14-13 advantage in shots while each team targeted six shots on goal. McCauley earned the victory in net with five saves in six opportunities.
