Box Score MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer team created ample amount of chances Friday night but could not convert in a 2-1 loss to Spring Arbor (Mich.) University during Senior Night at Wildcat Field.
The Wildcats (10-8-0, 4-5-0 MCC) generated 11 shots and put five on the Cougar net. IWU did most of their damage in the first 45 minutes of play when they took five shots with four on goal.
Sophomore forward Geoff Bowman delivered on one of those chances with an imaginative score in the 29th minute. Senior forward Zach Grantham placed a ball right to Bowman from the right corner. Bowman's backwards kick found the back of the net for the early 1-0 advantage.
Despite the heavy pressure, Indiana Wesleyan was unable to capitalize on any more of their opportunities. IWU took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Spring Arbor (9-6-3, 6-3-0 MCC) tied the score 1-1 in the 60th minute when Joel Musambi beat the Indiana Wesleyan defensive line. He later added the game-winning goal in the 75th minute for the 2-1 victory.
The final regular season match for both teams in the Mid-Central College Conference had a lot of significance for postseason tournament play. Spring Arbor secures a home match in the MCC Tournament First Round while Indiana Wesleyan will be forced to travel in the tournament's quarterfinal round.
The MCC Tournament First Round will be a week from Saturday on October 29. Indiana Wesleyan will learn its opponent tomorrow when the other eight conference schools finish their conference seasons.
