MARION, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer dropped a physical match to Aquinas (Mich.) College by a score of 2-0 on Saturday night at Wildcat Field.
Aquinas opened the scoring in the 17th minute when senior forward Jeo Pantoja converted a one-on-one opportunity against IWU freshman goalkeeper Dylan McCauley.
The Wildcats controlled much of the second half possession resulting in a 14-1 advantage in shots for the half. However, in the 71st minute Aquinas' senior midfielder Ruben Ornelas-Luna added an insurance goal when he knocked home a penalty kick following a penalty inside the 18-yard box.
Indiana Wesleyan would threaten multiple times during the remainder of the match but never was able to find the back of the net.
On the night, Indiana Wesleyan outshot Aquinas by a margin of 21-12 and held an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks. However, the Wildcats were unable to turn those opportunities into an edge on the scoreboard.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 2-5-1 on the season while Aquinas improves to 6-1-0 on the year.
Indiana Wesleyan will return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21st when IWU travels to Indianapolis to take on Marian (Ind.) University.
