MARION, Ind. - Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer team lost a hotly contested conference match to the visiting Bethel College Pilots by a 2-1 margin, on Tuesday night at Wildcat Field.
The Pilots opened the scoring in 30th minute when senior Martin Ruiz received a pass from junior Daniel Moyo at the top of the penalty box. Ruiz's shot just got under IWU freshman goalkeeper Dylan McCauley for the first goal of the game.
IWU senior midfielder Austin Bock evened the score in the 52nd minute when he gathered the deflected shot of junior defender Ben Stoddard in front of the net and put it home. The goal gave Bock the team lead in goals with four on the year.
Bethel would record the game- winning goal in the 73rd minute when senior Zach Ganzberg took a free kick from just outside the penalty box and found the net just inside the right post.
With the loss IWU falls to 5-7-1 (2-2-0 MCC) on the season, while Bethel improves to 7-6-0 (4-0-0 MCC).
The Wildcats next match will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 8, at Wildcat Field against Spring Arbor University.
