Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Box Score) -- University of Saint Francis (Ind.) clipped Indiana Wesleyan University in men's soccer by a 2-1 margin Wednesday afternoon in Mid-Central College Conference action in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The defeat is the first conference loss of the season for the Wildcats in three matches as IWU is now 2-1-0. For the Cougars, the win is the first in the MCC this season as USF improves to 1-1-0.
Saint Francis scored the only goal of the first half in the 24th minute of play. But Indiana Wesleyan held an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal and a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal.
The Cougars (6-4-0) added an insurance goal, and the eventual game-winner, in the 71st minute for a 2-0 advantage. The Wildcats trimmed the deficit in half on an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Austin Bock in the 81st minute. But IWU was unable to complete the comeback and score the equalizer as Saint Francis earned the 2-1 decision.
Both teams took 12 shots on the day and Indiana Wesleyan held a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. IWU senior goalkeeper Spenser Lang made three saves in net for the Wildcats.
Indiana Wesleyan (3-7-0) will next take the pitch at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 3 as the Wildcats host Ohio Dominican University during Homecoming at Wildcat Field.
