KENDALVILLE, Ind. -- Indiana Wesleyan University golf won the 2009 season opening Saint Francis Cougar Invitation by two strokes over Cornerstone (Mich.) University.
IWU sophomore Matt Milholland took home individual hardware with medalist honors. He shot a two round total of 141 (70-71) to finish at two under par.
The Wildcats shot a two day total of 592, outdistancing the Crusaders with a 594. Davenport (Mich.) University finished third, four strokes behind at 596.
Senior Austin Conroy (75-76) and junior Kyle Martin (73-78) tied for 15th with a 151 while senior Joe Madda (74-78) and sophomore Trey Rohrman (80-72) tied for 19th with a score of 152.
Indiana Wesleyan took the lead after the first day of play with a first round 292, four strokes better than Cornerstone and Davenport. On the final day of the tournament, Indiana Wesleyan shot 300 to win by two strokes.
The Wildcats finished the two round tournament 20 over par.
Indiana Wesleyan next competes at the O.C. Collins Invitational at Bedford Valley Golf Course in Battle Creek, Michigan on September 4-5.
