Box Score MARION, Ind. -- No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College escaped with a 2-1 victory over No. 18-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University on Homecoming Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Raiders tallied a pair of second half goals to overcome the Wildcats. The loss ends the IWU five-match win streak.
Indiana Wesleyan controlled the match early and had numerous scoring opportunities in the first 20 minutes of the match.
The Wildcats finally took advantage of all their opportunities with a tally in the 33rd minute of action. Mason Bragg found a wide open Nick Fortini who beat the Blue Raider keeper to give IWU the 1-0 advantage.
Both teams ended the opening frame with five shots as Indiana Wesleyan headed into the break with the 1-0 lead.
Lindsey Wilson opened the second half very aggressive and quickly tied the score four minutes into the period. But Indiana Wesleyan was able to survive the rest of the initial charge of Lindsey Wilson in the opening minutes of the half as the teams remained tied 1-1.
Indiana Wesleyan was able to force some more shots on the Lindsey Wilson keeper, but were continually turned away. LWC countered on a breakaway and scored the eventual game winner in the 73rd minute of play.
The Wildcats out-shot the visiting Blue Raiders 13-10 on the afternoon and held an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Indiana Wesleyan drops to 6-6-0 this season while Lindsey Wilson improves to 8-1-0.
The Wildcats will next play at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, as Indiana Wesleyan returns to Mid-Central College Conference play with a home match against Spring Arbor (Mich.) University.
