Box Score MARION, Ind. -- The Indiana Wesleyan University men's soccer team recorded a 1-0 victory on Tuesday night in a pivotal Mid-Central College Conference match at home against Goshen (Ind.) College.
Both teams entered play with one loss in conference. The win for the Wildcats moves IWU to 6-1 in the MCC and in a tie atop the standings with Bethel (Ind.) College. Goshen completes conference play with a 5-2-1 mark.
Indiana Wesleyan came out firing in the early portions of the match, registering six shot attempts in the first 15 minutes. But Goshen was up to the challenge defensively as the match remained scoreless.
The Wildcats finally broke the Maple Leaf defense in the 39th minute. Sophomore Nick Fortini crossed a pass across the box to sophomore Kyle Joern who shot the ball back to the far post to give IWU the 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Indiana Wesleyan out-shot Goshen in the opening period by an 11-4 margin.
The second half of action saw a lot more defensive effort by both teams. Each team earned four shots in the half, but none ended up on goal as the Wildcats clinched the 1-0 victory.
Senior starting goalkeeper Andy Rdzok and junior Spenser Lang combined on the shutout win. Each collected one save.
Indiana Wesleyan improves their mark to 10-7 overall while Goshen drops to 8-7-2.
In a pre-match ceremony, Indiana Wesleyan celebrated Senior Day. Seven Wildcat seniors competed in their final regular season match and they were recognized for their effort and success over the past four seasons.
The seven seniors on the squad are: Andy Rdzok, Travis Brady, Nick Coffman, Ben Chleboun, Christian Davis, Joel Trainer and Mason Bragg.
Following last night's victory, the senior class has tallied a record of 55-23-4 overall and a 24-6-1 mark in the MCC.
The Wildcats complete the regular season at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, as Indiana Wesleyan travels to play MCC foe Grace (Ind.) College in Winona Lake, Indiana.
