Box Score Marion, Ind. -- The NAIA No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Goshen College 3-2 and claim the MCC Tournament championship Wednesday.
The Wildcats (17-3-1) first goal came three minutes into the match when freshman defender Mark Demchak connected on a long throw-in down the sideline with junior forward Joel Trainer who then chipped it across to freshman forward David Trainer for the score.
Goshen (11-7-2) overtook the Wildcat momentum just six minutes later though as they scored off of a corner kick to even the score. The Maple Leafs then took the lead in the 21st minute off of a Cody Felton shot.
IWU started their comeback in the 62nd minute as Joel Trainer placed a low cross to the back post where senior David Lopez banked it back to the left side of the net for the score.
Joel Trainer slotted home the game winner in the 87th minute after receiving a pass from freshman forward Kyle Joern. Joel Trainer cut the ball back to his right foot inside the penalty box on the left side and placed his low shot to the back post for the game-winner.
The Wildcats will host the NAIA Region VIII game against Madonna University on Saturday, November 3, at 7:00 p.m.
